Leeward Islands
The first days of the voyage are spent sailing around Antigua, allowing time to build skills, settle into life aboard, and prepare for the longer passages ahead. From there, the route is shaped by weather, sea conditions and the adventure crew’s goals. When conditions are suitable at Montserrat’s open Little Bay anchorage, we’ll sail there for a two-night visit before continuing to Nevis. If Montserrat is not a comfortable option, we’ll spend an additional day sailing around Antigua before making the direct passage to Nevis. Either route combines practical sailing experience with island exploration and the everyday decision-making involved in Caribbean cruising.
Weather & Season
January falls within the drier, breezier season in the Leeward Islands. Daytime temperatures typically reach the low 80s°F, with nights in the mid-70s and water temperatures around 79–80°F.
Easterly trade winds are common, creating good conditions for sailing around Antigua and between the islands. Passing winter systems can still bring stronger winds, squalls and northerly swell, particularly in exposed anchorages.
Weather will play an important role in deciding whether we include Montserrat. We’ll begin with day sailing around Antigua while monitoring the forecast and sea state at Little Bay, Montserrat’s open anchorage and only port of entry. If conditions are comfortable, we’ll sail to Montserrat for a two-night visit before continuing to Nevis. If not, we’ll spend an additional day sailing around Antigua before making the direct passage to Nevis.
Both routes avoid overnight passages and offer a similar balance of sailing and time ashore. Our exact route and total mileage will depend on the conditions we encounter.
Travel Details

Meet Tahina in Antigua for embarkation; we’ll confirm the exact port before you travel. We’ll spend our first days sailing around the island while evaluating the forecast and deciding whether conditions favor a visit to Montserrat or additional time in Antigua before the direct passage to Nevis.
We’ll finish in Basseterre, St. Kitts, with disembarkation near Port Zante. Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) is approximately 10 minutes away and offers direct and connecting service through several US and Caribbean hubs.
