Join us aboard Tahina for a hands-on coastal or offshore sailing experience. Take on real-world cruising and passagemaking with experienced coaches beside you—building the skills, knowledge, and judgment for more ambitious voyages.
These are not traditional crewed vacations or sailing-school courses. You'll become part of life aboard a fully equipped blue-water cruising catamaran as we move from one destination to the next.
We treat the voyage as an open consultation. Ask questions, talk through decisions, and pick our brains about passagemaking, boat ownership and the buying process, systems and refits, cruising budgets and logistics, preparing your family for life aboard, or anything else you want to understand more deeply.
The Real Deal
There's a big difference between learning individual sailing skills and putting them together over days at sea.
On a Cruising Experience voyage, you become part of Tahina’s crew for the duration of the trip— standing watch, helming, trimming and reefing sails, navigating, monitoring weather, keeping lookout, handling lines, completing boat checks, preparing meals underway, and adapting as conditions or plans change.
You’re not watching someone else cruise. You’re learning to put it all together in real time, with experienced coaches teaching you to connect the skills, decisions, and routines that make a voyage — and the cruising lifestyle — work.

We're also happy to discuss common cruising systems, equipment and configuration, and the choices we have made after years of cruising, operating and refitting our own catamaran.
Learn in Motion
On our expeditions, the ocean is your classroom. You won't get a certification at the end, but you will leave with catamaran cruising experience and miles under the keel.
You’ll prepare with Jason and Lara before departure, then take an active role aboard Tahina, with coaching, explanation, and guidance as the expedition unfolds.

Every voyage is different. Joining the crew begins with an application so we can make sure the trip, conditions, and expectations are a good fit. Some voyages are suitable for people with little to no sailing experience.
For passages that include overnight sailing, we expect you to come prepared with foundational inshore or coastal sailing experience. ASA, RYA, and similar introductory sailing courses provide a solid baseline that we can build on together.
